It Used to be a social citizen classification in Laweyan, which is merchant people, common people, alim ulama and noble man. Woman usually take a big part on merchant people classification, and usually called mbok mase or nyah nganten and her husband usually called mas nganten.
Laweyan citizen generally still keep traditional art like keroncong music and karawitan and showed when marriage event or baby birthing event. Because of the major religion in Kampoeng Laweyan is Islam, so there are many Islamic activities such as, reading Qur’an, tadarus,etc.
